The spelling bee challenged students to learn words associated with civil rights and Black history. After five intense rounds, Nazifah Afra emerged as the champion. The winner and her family were treated to a night at the IMAX theater at Tropicana, complete with free popcorn, beverages, and parking, courtesy of CHORUS. They watched the 2006 filmĀ Akeelah and the Bee, starring Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, and Keke Palmer. -
