Late night hoops roundup: Watch Ky Gilliam's buzzer beater give AC win
Ky Gilliam sank a 35-foot, 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Atlantic City High School boys basketball team a 56-53 win over St. Joseph Academy on Wednesday. The Vikings (9-7) have won five straight. Gilliam scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. Sophomore guard Chris Finks scored a team-high 15 for Atlantic City. Hasanur Rahman Freeman added 14 and Mikel Jones had 10 for the Vikings.

Look who's back: Atlantic City boys basketball team wins third straight game Friday night
The Atlantic City High School boys basketball team is beginning to show signs of life. Sophomore guard Chris Finks scored 14 points as the Vikings won their third straight with a 47-37 win over Middle Township on Friday night. The Vikings, who scored just 13 points in the first game of the season, evened their record at 7-7, under first-year coach Wayne Nelson.

Atlantic City holds off persistent Millville, 51-49
The final minute of the first half showed what Ky Gilliam means to the Atlantic City High School boys basketball team. The Holy Spirit transfer finished with 17 points as Atlantic City beat the Thunderbolts 51-49 in a Cape-Atlantic League American Division game Tuesday night.

Late night hoops roundup for 12/19: AC boys get first win
Wayne Nelson got his first win as Atlantic City High School boys basketball coach Monday night. Hassanur Rahmaan-Freeman scored 18 as the Vikings beat Bridgeton 49-45. Tysir Jones added 8 points for Atlantic City (1-2), while Nasir Turner chipped in with six. Zikwon Anderson scored 25 for Bridgeton.

The Wayne Nelson era begins at Atlantic City
A new era for the Atlantic City High School boys basketball team began Thursday. Wayne Nelson made his debut as Vikings coach as Atlantic City opened the season at Millville. Nelson is just the seventh Vikings boys basketball coach since 1955.

Atlantic City hires new boys basketball coach
In a sense, Wayne Nelson came home Tuesday night. The Atlantic City Board of Education approved his hiring as the Atlantic City High School boys basketball coach. Nelson grew up in Atlantic City. He recalled working out as a boy and as a teenager with former Atlantic City greats Lou Roe and Romaine Heywood.

Atlantic City grad Nazim Derry making leap, transferring to Division I for basketball
Nazim Derry is moving up. The Atlantic City High School graduate played basketball the last two seasons with Goldey-Beacom College, an NCAA Division II program in Delaware. Derry tweeted April 18 his commitment to play next season with D-I University of New Hampshire.

The Vikings honored many of their long-time fans by presenting plaques to them before Sunday’s traditional Battle by the Bay finale between Atlantic City and Pleasantville on Sunday. The honorees included Delois Campbell, Ron Jordan, Frank Ervin, Williams Marsh and Wilbur Banks.

Atlantic City grad Nazim Derry averaging 21.1 points for Goldey-Beacom hoops
Nazim Derry has been the Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team’s top scorer through eight games. Derry, a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard and Atlantic City High School graduate, is averaging 21.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the NCAA Division II Lightning.

It was the biggest game Sharon Watson ever played. The Atlantic City High School senior made the most of it. Watson scored 11 points and made the momentum-changing plays to propel the Vikings to a 61-44 win over Cherry Hill East in the South Jersey Group IV boys basketball title game Tuesday night.
