• Fine and Performing Arts Academy

    Fine and Performing Arts Academy accepted Choice students will be given the opportunity for a specialized fine and performing arts education where academic teachers collaborate with the arts teachers to provide activities that enhance both the academic and artistic experiences of the students. All students will be presented with opportunities to enhance their arts education with honors and AP level courses.

    Dance Dance
    The Dance Program offers the highest standards in teaching, performance, and exposure. It provides the students with highly qualified teachers, solid technique, individual attention, and a chance to explore, develop and evolve into professional dancers. Those students choosing dance will gain proficiency in ballet, modern and jazz. The following content knowledge and skills will be addressed: Perform with technical proficiency Create original dance works and works in the likes of master works Respond and distinguish self-generated and master works in dance with an understanding from a structural, historical and cultural period Define aesthetic perspectives Develop various types of dance genres knowledge and skills related within the arts discipline. Students are expected to take part in school and various community performances.


    Music Program Music
    The Music Program offers the highest standards in teaching, performance, and exposure. It provides the students with highly qualified teachers, solid technique, and the individual attention required to evolve into highly trained musicians. Those students choosing music will be afforded opportunities to explore the creative process as performers, composers, and analysts. Additionally, as the “hometown” school for the Atlantic City tourism industry, students of our music program are afforded many performance opportunities not available to other schools.

    Students interested in applying for the Music Program will be required to participate in a mandatory audition and interview process. The audition will be based on the student’s current musical ability and interest in furthering their musical skills. Instrumental auditions will include a demonstration of two scales, a short, prepared piece and a sight reading exercise. The sight reading exercise will be the same for all applicants. Vocal auditions will include singing a five-note scale (Do-Sol) at low, medium and high parts of voice, sing a major scale using solfege, echoing short melodies given from the piano, a short, prepared piece, and a sight reading exercise. The sight reading exercise will be the same for all applicants. Students will be given a rubric with the application so they know how their performance will be evaluated. The interview will follow the audition and the student will be asked questions regarding their background in music and future aspirations.


    Theater Arts Theatre Arts
    The Choice School Theatre Arts Program at Atlantic City High School is a sequential course of study that allows students to engage in all facets of dramatic arts. Students will have a corollary education which utilizes the creative talents of qualified professionals in the arts, such as acting and a variety of other theatre studies. Furthermore, students will learn the application of methodologies for critique in order to develop a richer, varied cultural competency and a deeper sense of appreciation for the performing arts.

    The students enrolled in The Atlantic City Choice Schools Theatre Arts Program will comprise the core of The Viking Players, a drama organization that provides an opportunity for students to exercise their creativity in theatre arts and allows them to work as a co-operative team in the production of the annual Atlantic City High School theatrical play or musical.


    Television Production Television Production
    The Television Production program offers students the opportunity to learn and perform all aspects of the television industry. The program is taught by the only Emmy Award winning, major market anchor in South Jersey. Within the program, students learn the same skills utilized by professionals in the industry. With these skills, students are able to create a variety of videos, and in the process develop their own portfolio. In addition, students get to utilize the school’s new state of the art television studio. In the studio, students will receive hands-on experience while learning all of the roles in television including producing, directing, and anchoring. They will also participate in the school newscasts and they will play a vital role in a number of other shows. During their time in the program, students will receive exposure to a variety stations in the Philadelphia area, as well as hear from many television professionals around the country.
