The celebration energized the gym as the Atlantic City High School cheerleaders performed, and athletic teams were introduced to applause from classmates and staff.

Donald Harris, director of secondary education, said students both enjoy and benefit from College and Career Week.

“It’s always an exciting week,” Harris said. “It gives students a chance to see what’s available to them after high school.”

The week-long celebration is a collaborative effort between Atlantic City High School and the City of Atlantic City’s Youth Services Department. Youth Services Director Christina Noble said organizers make a conscious effort to keep the annual event fresh.

“We have a new university with a larger band and a larger cheer squad this year,” Noble said. “We really wanted to showcase the Atlantic City High School band.”

The highlight of the event came when the renowned Bowie State University Symphony of Soul marching band took center court. The Maryland-based ensemble traveled north to deliver an electrifying performance that left students inspired and roaring with excitement.

The pep rally marked the start of a series of activities designed to motivate students to explore post-secondary pathways and future careers.

Monday featured the College and Career Week kickoff pep rally. On Tuesday, students will participate in college and career prep workshops and an athletic panel. On Wednesday, students will hear from professionals during the “A Day in the Life” series. Thursday will culminate with the College, Career and Trade Fair.

Guidance Counselor Chaia Jennings, who helped coordinate the weeklong event, said continuous improvement is always the goal.

“It’s special every year,” Jennings said. “We look forward to meeting and exceeding the students’ expectations.”
